06-11-08:  Thomas Whelan- ..."I had the great fortune to go to the private "Meet and Greet" at the W Hotel last month in San Francisco.   Donna came out (and) sang: "STAMP YOUR FEET" and did a question and answer session.   She then Hand-signed a 8 X 10 for everyone and took a picture with each of us.   There were only 50 people.   It was a radio promo for her new CD..... I have a few pics of her as well as the pic of us together.  I plan on seeing her at the Hollywood Bowl in August and can't wait!"

Cathy Hawkins- Host of the Donna Summer Tribute Site!

    www.donna-tribute.com
I'm sure many of you will recognize the website above.   It's hands down the most successful Donna Fan site on the web today!   That's why I'm honored to have Ms. Cathy Hawkins- Webmaster of the Donna-Tribute site- as my first Donna Fan of the Month!  Cathy was genuinely surprised and a bit speechless as to what to say when I suggested that she was the one I wanted to feature.  Enjoy Cathy's stories and answers below!  Thanks Cathy!  We love you! - Doug

DSUS: How did you get started with your Donna-Tribute site?
Cathy: I actually started the website about 6 months after I first got online.  After surfing around and seeing what was out there and after realizing that AOL gave me webspace of my own to play with, I figured, "What the heck? Maybe I can build a page?" And I really didn't have anything better to write about at the time, so I started off with a pretty crappy page of pictures. Eventually I added the discography that I had been maintaining offline for my own personal pleasure (or geekiness depending how you look at it  LOL).  It just grew from there.  When I stop to think about it, I can't even believe it's been 10 years already.
DSUS: And we are grateful for your diligence and dedication!

DSUS: Are you on MySpace?  My handle is www.myspace.com/dgroovesrecordingstudio , what's yours?
Cathy: I do have MySpace.... I HATE it.  LOL   It doesn't play nicely with my old desktop computer so I rarely ever get a whole page to load correctly the first time.  Case and point - when I tried the "add friend" link on your page, all it would show me is a blank page. So maybe the friend request went through and maybe it didn't.  I'll give it another shot tomorrow.  I'm at www.myspace.com/ordinarydiva  over there but if I log in once a month it's a lot.
DSUS: I'll check again to see if it went through.  Dell is running specials on new computers.   Maybe the rest of us Donna fans should have a fund-raiser to purchase you a new computer in appreciation for all your years of service and work on the Donna Tribute site?  What do the rest of you think? :-)

DSUS: Q #1: What is the first Donna song you remember hearing?
Cathy: The first song that made an impression on me was Mimi's Song.  Donna sang it on a TV show, I heard it and being the sloppy sentimental teenager I was - I had to have it.
DSUS: "Mimi, you're beautiful!  Mimi, you're mine!"  I'm singing along now!

DSUS: Q #2: How old were you when that song was released?
Cathy: I was about fourteen at the time. (I'm not sure how that works out exactly because here it is 29 years later and I'm only 21......   ;-)  )
DSUS: I want to use the calculator you did to find my own age!  LOL!

DSUS: Q #3: How many Donna Summer LPs do you own?
Cathy: Ummmmm.... a lot!  LOL  I haven't counted but I have every LP from Lady Of The Night up through Another Place And Time, plus  a couple of duplicates and some extra things like soundtrack albums, musicals, etc.
DSUS: In this busy day, it is hard to keep track of all the babies, isn't it?

DSUS: Q #4: How many Donna Summer CDs (full, extended mixes, singles, etc.) do you own?
Cathy: Ummmmm - even more!   LOL  I (of course) got cds for all the lps I had already owned (or as many as I could), plus everything that's come out since.  It's probably about a 4 foot shelf of nothing but official Donna releases - then when you add cdrs of fan mixes and things it just gets totally out of hand. But it's not like I'm addicted or anything......   ;-)
DSUS: Are we talking more than 20?  Around 200?  Over a million?  Just curious!

DSUS: Q #5: If you were in charge of hosting Donna Summer for a day, what would you do to make it memorable for Donna?
Cathy: I'd drag her to the vault and make her play me all the unreleased tracks....... oh wait, you probably meant "memorable" in a good way for her.  ;-)  I don't know.  I think I'd just say, "So, what do you feel like doing today?" and take it from there.
DSUS: Ooh! Good answer!  And then you'd make sure to share the songs with your favorite friend from DonnaSummer.US, right?  :-)

DSUS: Q #6: Have you ever met Donna in person?  If so, when and where?
Cathy: Yes. I met Donna back in 1999.  Early 1999 - LITERALLY.  LOL  It was something like January 3 or 4.  LOL  I was bringing her a book of fan memories called Pages From The Heart.  The whole story of that is still archived on the site (http://www.donna-tribute.com/articles/99/book.html) so I won't go into it here, but that was the beginning.  :-)  Here and there at various times. She and I always seem to turn up at some of the same concerts.  Go figure?   ;-)
DSUS: Who'd a thunk it?

DSUS: Q #7: What is your favorite Donna song?
Cathy: If we are talking ballads then Christmas Spirit. If we are talking uptempo tracks, the MacArthur Park - but ONLY if it's the album version with the bridge.  The single edit is just frustrating.
DSUS: I guess I should divide the question into two categories.  I will next month!

DSUS: Q #8: What is your favorite Donna CD/LP?
Cathy: Christmas Spirit again, but I do have a special place in my heart for Live & More since it was my first.
DSUS: I just LOVE Christmas Spirit, too!

DSUS: Q #9: On a scale of 1-10 (1 being "She's OK" and 10 being "She's FABUUUU") where do you rate your appreciation for Donna?
    Cathy: ---------
DSUS: Cathy was so overcome with emotions that she could not answer this one!

DSUS: Q #10: If Donna were reading this right now, (and you never know, she could be), what would you say to her?
Cathy: I think I'd just go with "Hi Donna!" for now.  :-)
DSUS: She'll get back to you soon, right after she and I do lunch! (Just kidding!).

DSUS: Thanks Cathy! for taking the time to answer the Donna Summer Fan of the Month questions!  Have a great month, and keep up the "Lord's Work" on the Donna-Tribute site!  :-)

Cathy is also a budding Photographer who likes to use PhotoShop to enhance her pictures, as well as edit other people's pics for fun.   I'd like Cathy to edit my Profile pic so I look about 60 pounds lighter!  (Move over- Oprah!).  Thanks in advance, Cathy!  Keep snapping!
